True Healing |

I have seen a great many people suffer from physical ailments, emotional drama and myriads of other ways we humans create unease in our lives. The cry in all our hearts is for healing, but we do not quite know what true healing is. For most people healing means that some outer condition is changed for the better or the body is returned to a more balanced state. But if our life was a tree this would merely be touching the leaves of that tree never getting close to what is happening at the root level, and it is in that root level that true healing happens.
Your thoughts and beliefs create reality to be exactly what it is for you. It is not the same for anyone around you even if it appears so. Each one of us lives in a sphere of our own thinking and believing. Whatever appearance the condition of suffering takes it is ultimately always coming from the same root of wrong thinking. It is our own choice to make something that is not real – fear and separation – into a solid reality and then experience the results.
True healing happens at the deepest level of our being, at the level where we have made choices and agreements as to what we believe to be real in this life. When Christ healed people he did not try to fix their condition, he merely invited them to join him in a higher reality where suffering simply does not exist. A seeming miracle and an instant healing took place, if the person chose to align with the pure vision of Christ.
The healer is not outside of us. The healer is not somebody else. You are the healer of your own self and of your world. It may seem like a tall order and too much to deal with when there are so many things already that we are taking responsibility for. The truth is much simpler, however. By the simple practice of returning your awareness to the Ascendant through the natural process of Ascending all healing happens automatically. What is required of us for this to happen is willingness and simple choice to fill our minds with the thoughts of Reality instead of thoughts of limitation and suffering.
True healing is found on the inside. In the divine presence of our own consciousness lies the key to experience life that is perfected. Each Ascension Attitude takes our consciousness beyond the level of suffering born from believing in separation from our own perfected Self, from the Ascendant. The Attitudes raise the level of our thinking to highness and purity. As naturally as water falls so does everything in our life align with truth through the Ascension Attitudes.
To be healed or not to be healed, now that is a choice.

We commonly feel that the body and mind are separate entities -- there are physical problems and there are mental problems; they are distinct. But the body-mind is actually more of a continuum -- the physical structure is a congealed expression of our habitual patterns of thinking and believing. The body is secondary, a tool of the mind, not the other way around. The body has no power in and by itself to do anything. It cannot be sick or injured without the consent of the mind.
Is this a difficult idea to grasp? Our standard world-view holds that the mind is limited by the body, which is primary. If we are accustomed to think of our minds as bound by our bodies, then it will be particularly hard to unravel this concept. But if we could, even for an instant, relax our beliefs and judgments, we would find that there are other ways of viewing the mind and the mind-body relationship -- and these other ways might serve us much better.
If the individual changes his/her mind, the body responds accordingly. Thus a physical “miracle” such as a sudden reversal of disease or injury is, simply, a deep change of mind in the healed person. It is not a change of mind in the Healer. The Healer is already healed. This explains why so many prayers for healing are seemingly not answered -- healing never comes from the outside in -- it always comes from the inside out. The God-force within can heal anyone of anything. If you can recognize your inner Divine Nature, perfect health is the automatic result. God on the outside, however, as an external force disconnected from your innermost being would be denying your free will if It healed you. Created in the image of God means created with Absolute freedom of choice. This is abrogated never. First you must change your mind and desire perfect health. Then healing occurs. Then, in fact, healing must occur -- it is the automatic by-product of who you are. But the change of mind must be on the deepest level of your being -- simply deciding with the surface mind that “I am well” is not only useless but potentially mentally deranging. Affirmations repeated by the conscious thinking level of the mind, although occasionally soothing distraught emotional states, are all but worthless for bringing about a deep transformation of perception of Reality. An affirmation repeated a few times a day does little to counteract the intensity of the habitual patterns created by the average adult human’s 50,000 daily thoughts.

It may sound surprising on first hearing that our True Nature is Infinite, but that is only because of our life-long habit of identifying with the boundaries of experience. This has led us to consider the changing display of our thoughts to be the real us. Yet only still the mind — even for an instant! — and a whole new vista of unlimited potentiality is revealed. And that vista soothes and heals. The Seer rests there. “Dwells, stands, abides, remains, is stable, is established” — these are all acceptable translations of avasthānam, here rendered “rests.” Ultimately soothing, eternally peaceful — this is resting in the Self, the experience of the Seer experiencing the Ascendant Self. That is the permanent and real state of the Self — the movements are temporary and illusory.

Christ could heal the sick and raise the dead because he had fully realized all problems are illusions born exactly in the same way -- by turning away from the Infinite light of the Ascendant. He realized he could unmake these mistaken perceptions by knowing that all problems are caused in the same way, by belief in duality.
Said another way, the true Healer perceives illness and death as nothing more or less than illusions in the mind of the sufferer. If the Healer is free from illusions, it becomes possible to help those who are still caught by their ancient and yet continuous decision. By representing the Truth for the sick, the Healer heals. The Healer sees only the Truth: the sufferer is well, a perfect representation of the Ascendant on Earth. If the sick one chooses to share this perception, change the mind and turn back to the inner light, healing is instantaneous. Only belief in duality stands in error. And the nice thing about any belief is that it can be changed, based on new experience.
I am not recommending we stand before someone who is ill and say with judgment, “Your illness is an illusion, get up and be well!” Nor am I recommending that we act in such a silly way to ourselves. It is not by adopting a new belief system that our old beliefs fall. It is by learning to experience a different reality that our beliefs change. Only a new tree will grow a new fruit. If the old tree is growing poisoned apples of despair, sickness and death, a new tree is required to produce a new harvest of joy, health and life.

Healing as Release from Fear
Our emphasis is now on healing. The miracle is the means, the Atonement is the principle, and healing is the result. To speak of "a miracle of healing" is to combine two orders of reality inappropriately. Healing is not a miracle. The Atonement, or the final miracle, is a remedy and any type of healing is a result. The kind of error to which Atonement is applied is irreleveant. All healing is essentially the release from fear. To undertake this you cannot be fearful yourself. You do not understand healing because of your own fear.
A major step in the Atonement plan is to undo error at all levels. Sickness or "not-right-mindedness" is the result of level confusion, because it always entails the belief that what is amiss on one level can adversely affect another. We have referred to miracles as the means of correcting level confusion, for all mistakes must be corrected at the level where they occur. Only the mind is cabable of error. The body can act wrongly only when it is responding to misthought. The body cannot create, and the belief that it can, a fundamental error, produces all physical symptoms. Physical illness represents a belief in magic. The whole distortion that made magic rests on the belief that there is a creative ability in matter which the mind cannot control.
The Invitation to Healing
Would you be hostage to the ego or host to God? You will accept only whom you invite. You are free to determine who shall be your guest, and how long he shall remain with you. Yet this is not real freedom, for it still depends on how you see it. The Holy Spirit is there, although He cannot help you without your invitation. And the ego is nothing, whether you invite it in or not. Real freedom depends on welcoming Reality, and of your guests only the Holy Spirit is real. Know, then, Who abides with you merely by recognizing what is there already, and do not be satisfied with imaginery comforters, for the Comforter of God is in you.

When the mind is filled with destructive, painful, hard thoughts, awareness becomes coarser, more crude, and the nervous system and the body respond by producing unhappiness and ill health. When creative, not-painful thoughts fill the mind, awareness becomes subtler, more refined, and the nervous system and the body respond by creating happiness, health and youth. The quality of our thoughts is thus directly responsible for the state of our well-being, our progress and our longevity.
No illness springs into being overnight. Wrong thoughts must continue for a long time before the body’s magnificent immune system fails.
This should (or at least can) bring great hope to the suffering of the world. It is perhaps difficult to cure a disease after it has taken hold of the mind and body. But it is absurdly easy to cure in advance, before the disease roots itself firmly in our being. Change the mind and the effects will change. How difficult to pull up a mighty oak. How simple to pinch off an acorn’s sprout.
This is skill in action. If you desire a glorious future, transform the present. There is actually no other choice. What control we have over our environment is strictly limited. But we do have complete control over how we use our own minds. We may have completely forgotten this fact; we may feel we are victims of forces, external and internal, that are quite beyond our control. But it is not so. For example, we have found in the teaching of Ascension that it is absurdly easy to reverse even life-long habits of painful, damaging, forced, dark thinking. The response is immediate and obvious. The lines of deep care start vanishing as the face starts glowing with its own internal radiance. Within a few short days, happiness, peace and health become the normal experience. It is not difficult to change the mind; it is only necessary to learn a new way of thinking — thoughts that are liberating, joyful, light and easy — in short, creative.

The duration of the course is 6 months.
