    The Ascendant

Within every single one of us there is something that does not change and that is eternal. It is Universally the same for everyone and connects all and everything. It has the power to transform human life from the binding ignorance to absolute freedom. Awareness of what that exactly is within the individual's experience can light up anybody and open the path of return to the true way of living.

Much of our focus is diverted into manifold directions even if they are of spiritual nature. The endeavor to understand consciousness has enlightened the mind to a great degree. And as many have also found out the fulfillment does not come out of that kind of enlightenment. Or at least that fulfillment has no permanency to it.

There is only One that can give permanent stability and fulfillment. The name we give to That is not so important. The experience of it is everything and that is what all hearts are yearning for, to reunite with the absolute simplicity of the truth of the One.

There is a need to learn to redirect our focus from the relative experiences of  ups and downs to That which is immovable. It is not our doing or understanding that opens the doorway to higher consciousness but our choice to surrender to what already is present in all of us. That choice is the one thing that can lift us up from the gravity of our beliefs and the old choices made along the path of an evolving soul.

Once one gains familiarity with the state of pure consciousness within the Choice begins to clarify. There is no problem in this world that has the power to stop us from making the choice for the truth. We begin to see through the appearances into the purity of consciousness that is within everything and within every experience. There is a very black and white choice for all humans to either rise with the ascending currents of creation through focusing on the Unchanging One or go down with the torrents of egoic drama created by fear and ignorance.

There is no greater gift than the awareness of the Absolute. As that awareness expands and grows through one's one-pointed focus on it the more its Reality becomes manifest here on earth. And that is what we are here for. Religions have served in preserving the memory of truth even if it is a diluted one. Now is the time to approach the root of all religions and the root of all paths. To recognize again the Universality of our true Self that knows no boundaries or limitations and does not bow down to that which is created from fear.

There is much truth and beauty hidden in this frail human vehicle that we possess and have our experience in. It is a miracle in itself that we are able to experience both the relative and the absolute and all that lies in between at the same time. The more that our precious identity with this form dissolves the more we will naturally experience the freedom in consciousness, the joy of rising beyond conditions and limiting beliefs. The wonder and innocence of life returns to us as our awareness of the Source of all is again anchored and established.

There are no limits to what we can do once we realign with the One consciousness within our minds and our hearts. As we bring our fragmented self back into the unified field of consciousness, we will experience heaven on earth. We will experience the absolute manifesting through these human bodies and transforming human life into the divine. This need not take a long time but it does require our choice and commitment to move toward life that is founded on the truth of the One. A life that is lived from the conscious awareness of the divine presence. A life that is lived from knowing who we are with such clarity that appearances will never fool us again. The false identity with form will yield to the formless One.

    Pada I. Sutra 3, Enlightenment!

Hard to describe in words is the experience of Ascendant Pure Consciousness -- consciousness seeing itself, devoid of any thought. The reason it is hard to describe is that any words impose limits, and consciousness without thought moving is unlimited. The experience is that consciousness is without form, Unbounded, unrestricted by any of the familiar limitations of Waking State experience. Without the familiar conditions of thought, the first tastes of this experience can be so novel that the individual may not be quite sure exactly what just happened. When one Ascends the Waking state, thought stills and the conscious Experiences, the Seer, is left without thought, experiencing consciousness without any movement of consciousness. This is the ultimate of subtlety; it takes the average person repeated experience of consciousness without thought moving to recognize exactly what this Ascendant consciousness truly is.

Pure Consciousness, Ascendant Consciousness, the True Self, Absolute Awareness -- all these are synonymous terms. This is the True Form of the Self. The Self when it experiences transformation or change becomes the self with a small "s" a.k.a. the ego. The limitations accepted by the Self create the sense of I-ness. "I am so many feet tall, so many feet wide; I live here, this is my house; this is my past, these are my beliefs" -- these are the limiting thoughts that restrict the True Form of the Self into the narrow boundaries of experience. When these boundaries melt back into silence, the Self experiences its essential nature, which is Unbounded, unlimited by space, time or causation.

Ascendant Consciousness thus means consciousness devoid of thoughts. It is omnipresent, never-changing, Infinite, Eternal.

    Bhagavad-Gita

Mind is the link between the action and the actor, the self.  As long as the mind is one-sided, subjected only to activity and without the direct influence of Being, it fails to be a successful mediator.  It fails to safeguard the freedom of the self from the influence of action, and at the same time fails to safeguard action from the limitations of individuality, so that activity remains without the direct support from the almighty power of Nature...

The mind has to become as familiar with Being as it is with activity, and for this to happen it has first to come out of the field of activity and enter the sphere of Being...Once out of the field of action, the mind finds itself as the Self, completely unattached to activity, ever remaining in the absolute state, "in happiness", a silent witness of all events, "neither acting nor causing action to be done'

The eternal unmanifested absolute nature of the spirit, or self, is ever unaffected by happenings in the relative field. It is ever the same, beyond the limits of time, space and causation. Without beginning or end, it knows no birth or death. Whether in this or that body, the self continues to be. The immutable eternal life remains through the ever-changing phases of the bodies which it takes.

Joab tapped the water, sending concentric ripples to the far corners of the pool. "Naisan! Have you forgotten everything? Beyond the tumultuous waves of your mind lies the fathomless peace of the eternally still One. You know this! Behind the thick clouds of your conclusions and beliefs burns the infinite radiance of the utterly pure, forever serene, eternally silent One immutable. That is the Reality, the only Reality there is. Live the Oathmasters' wisdom, adan! Give up your false dream! Let the power of the One lift you back to your true home! If you but allow it, infinite energy lies at your disposal. Only your beliefs can stop Reality, for your ego fights to uphold that which is a lie. This world is your dream, nothing more."

    The Ascendant

When we perceive the external world, we are looking at our definitions of forms and objects, but not the underlying Unified Field in which they appear. Similarly, in our inner world, feelings and thoughts clutter our awareness, but the awareness of awareness itself is never known. The Ascendant is the space in which things exist; it is the essence out of which everything is made: thoughts, feelings, computers, my aunt Daisy.

This is not a void as some have claimed, this is not empty or negative reality. Rather, the Ascendant is a positive state of fullness, of infinite potential energy out of which everything comes. Since the Ascendant underlies and permeates everything in creation, it is called omnipresent. Everything comes from it and exists because of it. Nothing can or does exist in isolation. Everything is composed of the Ascendant, continually flowing in and out of manifestation.

Even though the experience of the Ascendant is impossible to define in words, it is a real experience. In fact, the experience of the Ascendant is more real than any waking state experience. The experience of the Unbounded is infinitely abstract and yet infinitely concrete. Having once tasted this clearly, life cannot remain the same. There is no previous behavior pattern, habit, judgment or belief that can withstand the force of Unbounded Awareness, for the Ascendant is the root of everything.

The Ascendant is the Ultimate Reality from which everything has come and in which everything continues to exist forever. To experience this as our true nature is enlightenment; to remain ignorant of this means remaining caught by the boundaries of illusion, life after life, caught on the wheel of samsara, of cyclic change. Through ascending, the Ascendant is experienced as our own essential nature, as awareness of awareness itself, as pure, Unlimited consciousness. This is the experience of Infinite Freedom. This is liberation from the boundaries of the ego. Since the Ascendant is the Source of everything, recognizing that "I am That" means that I recognize that I am all-pervasive. This is the state of Is-ness, free from any and every duality, freed from the sense of My-ness or even Am-ness. The Ascendant simply is. And That I am.

When the mind is experiencing the silence of the Ascendant, there is no motion of thought. Like a perfectly still pond untouched by wind, there are no waves, no ripples, no motion of any kind when the mind is opened to the experience of the Ascendant. This state is measurable by the electroencephalograph: coherence of the brain waves is the objective measurement of the subjective experience of ascending.

The mind consumes vastly less energy when it floats in the Ascendant; because of this, the body settles down to its deepest level of rest. In the perfect state of infinite silence, there is no necessity for breath: the individual retains life by recognizing that he or she is part of Universal Life, in no way different or separate from Eternal existence. In other words, life continues because life is the essence of the Ascendant. In this state, no decay is possible, no illness, no death, no suffering, no pain.

    The Value of Experience

To experience the Ascendant is the most vital, most important experience of one's life.  Direct experience of the Ascendant with awareness is the key to the door of Everything.

To clarify, I'll use the analogy of a very hungry man - one who has not eaten in days.  Eating food is the only thing that will satisfy him.  Without nourishment he will eventually die.  Would you give him a recipe book? What about a class on the nutritional values of the food? All the learning in the world will not give him what he needs.

Yet this is how most people attend to their spiritual lives.  They spend much time reading books and going to classes rather than getting to know their true Self.  They try to learn about it.  Learning about it is not a substitute for experience! Once a person has learned how to ascend, they now have the tools to have a direct experience of the Ascendant.  In addition to the closed eye practice, using the Ascension Attitudes with the eyes open can help bring that awareness into their daily life.

I have been a teacher of Ascension for over 7 years and have personally observed as hundreds of people learned to ascend.  I see their lives improve quickly after learning.  But the people that are regular in their practice of ascension and have a strong desire to become aware of the ascendant, see changes more quickly than those who don't.  Even more rapid changes occur in ascenders who become aware of their experience of the Ascendant, not just with their eyes closed, but all day long.  Their lives transform very quickly.  Their lives don't transform from working at it.....their lives transform as a result of their expansion of consciousness.

The only way to become detached from form is to become attached to essence.
Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world. The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same. Every wonderful sight will vanish, every sweet word will fade, but do not be disheartened, the source they come from is eternal, growing, branching out, giving new life and joy.
    Why do you weep?
The source is within you and this whole world is springing from it.

    An Invitation

In order for this window to open wider and to offer more perspective, I am asking for help from all of you who happen to read this (yes, you).

I would like to add a section to this Newsletter where ascenders' voices could be heard. In essence I would like to hear your personal experience of how Ascension has affected your life and how you are applying Ascension in your day to day activities.

You can email the text to theishayatradition@yahoo.com titled as newsletter article.
I would also much appreciate any feedback that you might have about this newsletter and that can be emailed to the same address titled as feedback.

The newsletter is finalized 11th of every month so it can be sent out the 15th. If the response is overwhelming I might not be able to use them all right away. But all effort is much appreciated.

Thank you very much! Have fun writing. This is all about enlivening the practice of Ascension and the Truth of the Ascendant One present in all of us.
